CONTACT

Hi there, my name is Rebecca Jo…

I am an artist, educator, social justice advocate and unsolicited advice giver. What can I say? “I contain multitudes.” I developed Personal Space Movement as a way to provide accessible personal care practices for anyone unable to or uninterested in attending in studio group classes. Whether online or in person, I offer approachable exercises that encourage curiosity, playful exploration, objective observation, and accountability. I support my students in identifying existing habits of movement and thought, while guiding them through processes of re-patterning. I believe deeply in the transformative power of alchemizing chaotic mental, emotional and physical energy into intentional creative action.

As a late diagnosed neurodivergent person (formerly known as “gifted child”), creative processing through art and movement has been a consistent and necessary part of my daily maintenance for as long as I remember. I slipped into my first set of ballet shoes at the tender age of three and then immediately kicked them off for cartwheels instead. While spending a bulk of my childhood in a gym came with it’s own setbacks, I give a lot of credit to my early education in spatial awareness, complex movement dynamics and musicality for giving me tools to navigate life’s inconsistencies.

I have a BFA in Photography and Art History from Parsons School of Design and have studied movement arts, yoga, breath work, somatic psychology, spiritual philosophy and mindfulness practices cumulatively for over 30 years. After earning my first 200hr Hatha/Vinyasa Yoga certification in 2009 through Frog Lotus Yoga’s International program in Spain, I began offering group yoga classes in Manhattan as well as working privately with individuals recovering from spinal injury.

I have since taught private and group classes in New York, Tulum, Berlin, Morocco, Denver, and Los Angeles. I self produce on demand classes and courses, lead mentorships and teacher trainings, and have facilitated over 50 international retreats in Central America, Europe and Africa. I am certified in Adaptive Hatha, Vinyasa, Restorative, and Katonah Yoga® and have significant education/training in Iyengar, Yin, Prenatal, Forrest Yoga and other integrated movement modalities.

I am currently based in NYC and offer 1:1 and small group sessions in yoga, breath work, and mobility training online and in person as well as private teaching mentorship and creative coaching sessions. I still dance everyday and plan to do so for as long as this body will allow me.
